Keillor’s public image has taken a hit over the last 6
months, but with that being said, this book redeemed him as a writer to me
after a disappointing Lake Wobegon Days novel
that I read a few months ago. This was more of a traditional novel with a basic
plot, and it contained the anecdotal folksiness and small-town humor I had
expected in Wobegon Days. Pontoon is
a quick 250-page read detailing the quirks of about a half-dozen characters
with everything tying together in a farcical conclusion.
We picked up about a half dozen Keillor books over the
summer, so I am glad that I liked this one, because it gives me motivation to
read the others.
